Der Eistaucher ist eine absolute Rarität. Seit mindestens 50 Jahren ist er noch nie im Ingolstädter Stadtgebiet nachgewiesen worden. Alte Autoren konnten sogar für den Zeitraum 1800-1980 keinen einzigen Eistaucher für die gesamte Region Ingolstadt benennen.
Ich konnte den Durchzügler Ende November im Baggersee bei der Gefiederpflege lange beobachten. Bis er abtauchte und ich ihn nicht mehr gesehen habe. Er ist bekannt für seine längeren Tauchgänge.
